I stumbled upon a thriving colony of these beguiling animals around the margins of a remote willow encircled pond some forty years ago. Now though this species is very scarce and even threatened with extinction in England.
The only way to attract the animal to the part of the bank where my camera was focussed was to use fresh willow leaves as bait, which were all around the pond anyway! Other inducements were ignored completely.
