The Charm of Moths
As a result of lockdown a recent project has revolved around moths caught in a homemade moth-trap. Moths are every bit as beautiful as butterflies but in a more subtle ways.
Apart from the excitement of checking the catch in the early morning, the best way of getting familiar with some of the nearly 3000 moths found in Britain is to photograph them. So that the backgrounds don't detract from their allure I have recorded them on relatively plain natural backgrounds the images functioning as an aide memoir rather than photographic masterpieces! I hope too that the pictures will help to persuade some that these little gems of the insect world are worth admiring closely and are given as much protection as butterflies.
Within nine months or so I have a 'collection' of some 250 species and can even manage to remember all their English names - which have far more appeal than their scientific ones.
